2018-19 Chamber Music Program

Registration is closed for this event

The Chamber Music Program is a performing group for students with similar ages and/or skills, who would like to participate in events and competitions.  NOTE: Registration in the Chamber Music Program is for OSA members only and you must be recommended by your private teacher.  Please check with your private teacher OR the Registrar before registering.

The Chamber Music Program will run from mid or late October to mid to late May.  Most groups will be a traditional quartet format with 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello or 3 violins and 1 cello.  A limited number of groups with a pianist or single-instrument groups (eg. 4 violins).  Groups will be formed based on teacher’s feedback, existing peer groups, similar age and/or skills, availabilities, etc.  Coaches will be assigned based on availabilities and groups’ preferred coach choices.

Each group and its coach will determine its own rehearsal schedule and rehearsals my take place at either QEP, or a member’s or teacher's home. The OSA will facilitate securing space at QEP if required.

Each group will choose its own music and can decide to participate in events and competitions.  However, it is expected that each group will attend a minimum of 2 OSA events (including the Christmas Concert, chamber music workshop/masterclass and chamber music festival) and at least 1 community outreach event. There will be a list of events available so each group can decide on the events to perform and save the dates.  There may also be opportunities to perform at paying ‘gigs’, so aim to have a performing repertoire of at least 30 minutes!

One parent rep. per group will be required to take instructions from the coach and communicate with the OSA adminstrators. Older students can nominate one member to be the group rep. instead of a parent.  Note that each student is expected to complete regular at-home practice of their own and use rehearsal time to work as a team.

Program fees are listed below.  Check with the Registrar to determine your fee level before registering.  Fees include:

  • 18 hours of coaches’ time for rehearsals and attending events
  • Participation in OSA events (including the chamber music workshop or masterclass)

Fees EXCLUDE group’s participation in non-OSA events/competitions or music purchases.
