Speaker Kate Einarson on: Science and the Suzuki method: Figuring out how children learn

Kate Einarson is a Ph.D. Candidate at the McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind (MIMM), where she has also taught in the undergraduate Music Cognition program. Her research examines how humans learn to listen to and move to music, and how engaging with music affects the cognitive, social, and emotional development of infants and children. She has taught music for more than a decade, and has worked with the OSA since 2010. 

Kate is passionate about making research accessible to a wide audience. Her presentations to teachers, parents, and the general public have been featured on iTunesU, CBC.ca, YouTube, and in print media. Kate has received awards for Excellence in Communicating Research and for Knowledge Mobilization, as well as the People’s Choice Award in the McMaster Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, and the Merit Award for New Faculty at McMaster.
 

In addition:

there will be child minding provided as well as an opportunity to meet some of our newest Teen Mentors (graduates of our upcoming Teen Mentor Training Program, who will assist with the child minding). Children are welcome to stay or to enjoy a movie in a nearby room.
