To ensure you select the instrument that is best for you and your child, one which will provide you both with years of musical enjoyment, it is recommended that you expose your child to several different instruments to see if there is one they are naturally drawn to.
The Early Childhood Music program offers a great opportunity to introduce your children to a variety of instruments and to learn how they are played.
The Oakville Suzuki Association networks students with Suzuki trained teachers who provide musical instruction in cello, flute, guitar, piano, violin and viola. Contact the Registrar for information on teachers.
Before purchasing an instrument, consult your teacher for suggestions of suppliers, models, and sizes to consider. It might be a good idea to rent an instrument for beginners to ensure the interest will continue. Renting is also recommended for the young student as smaller instruments (such as 1/16th violin is difficult to resell).
