String Workshop with Time for Three - February 16, 2015

For violinists and violists Book 2 and up, cellists Book 3 and up, and bassists of all levels:

TIME FOR THREE, the electrifying trio of two violins and bass who performed spectacularly at the 2012 SAA conference, will be giving a special workshop in Oakville on Family Day, FEBRUARY 16, 2015. This exceptional workshop is possible thanks to their performance with the Toronto Symphony on the following two days. Oakville Suzuki Association is inviting everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to work with Nick Kendall (Violin), Zachary de Pue (Violin) and Ranaan Meyer (Bass). If you haven’t seen or heard them perform, see their promotional video, and you will be amazed.

The workshop will be divided into two sessions (morning and afternoon) with our guest clinicians:

Morning  Sessions (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
Location: Glen Abbey United Church, 1469 Nottinghill Gate, Oakville (map)

  • Violin Book 2 and 3 and Viola Book 2-4:  Workshop with Nick Kendall (Review repertoire: Hunter’s Chorus (Book 2),  Gavotte in G minor (Book 3))
  • Cello Book 3 and up, and Double Bass of any level: Improvisation workshop with Ranaan Meyer. This session is also open for adult double bass players, a rare opportunity to work with a fine improviser.

Afternoon Session (1:15 PM - 2:15 PM)
Location: Church of the Incarnation, 1240 Old Abbey Lane, Oakville (map)

  • Violin Book 4 and up and Viola Book 6:  Workshop with Nick Kendall and Zachary de Pue (Review repertoire: Seitz Concerto no. 5, 1st movement (Book 4), Concerto for 2 violins in D minor, 1st mvt. (Book 4  & up, Viola Book 6 only)

After the morning session, participants are invited to go to Church of the Incarnation, located a short distance from Glen Abbey United church for a concert demonstration by Time for Three at 12:45 p.m.

 

Workshop fee:

  • Participants who are registered in the Oakville Suzuki Association Violin Group lesson program (Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings) or are part of Preludio or Vivace Violins: $0
  • Everyone else: $35 (Oakville Suzuki Association members will receive a $10 discount)

Everyone attending must register. Online registration ends at midnight on Friday. There will be on-site registration at the event

This Workshop is open to:

  • Violinists: Suzuki Book 2 and above
  • Violists: Suzuki Book 2 and above
  • Cellists: Suzuki Book 3 and above
  • Bassists: all levels

 

What about Book 1 violin students?

While the more advanced students are attending a special workshop with members of the group Time for Three, the Oakville Suzuki Association Violin Program is pleased to offer a violin workshop for Book 1 students with Wendy Seravalle-Smith of the Thornhill School of Suzuki String and Danielle Gagnon, Orff and Kodaly specialist.
