Cello Masterclass and Workshop - March 1, 2020 at QEPCCC

We are very excited about our upcoming Cello Workshop on Sunday March 1st.

We are pleased to announce the return of David Evenchick, and Julien Altmann, to provide masterclasses and group class and improv experiences. (see their bios below).  Please sign up as soon as possible to make sure you don't miss out on this opportunity!

David Evenchick

Dr. Evenchick has been a sanctioned cello teacher trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas since 1999, and in this capacity has trained hundreds of musicians internationally to teach the cello utilizing the Suzuki philosophy.

Teamwork and organizational contribution are an important part of Dr. Evenchick’s role in teaching. He has held positions at the Preucil School of Music, Grinnell (Iowa) College and the Suzuki String School of Guelph. In addition, he has sat on steering committees for the Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Suzuki Association of Ontario, and is a co-coordinator of the Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institute.

This year David is excited to be part of a team that is offering long term string teacher development courses at Wifrid Laurier University (Kitchener Waterloo, ON). These are the first long term Suzuki courses for cello to be offered in Canada.

David describes his approach to cello pedagogy as “eclectic,” amalgamating the Suzuki Cello School® with other elements such as the cello materials of Rudolf Matz, a love of children, a fascination with the learning process, and an openness to constant growth.

Julien Altmann

Julien Altmann completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music with Richard O’Neill and Carla Maria Rodriguez. He then moved to Montreal to pursue his M.Mus in viola performance with André Roy at McGill’s Schulich School of Music where he won the 2018 Chamber Music Competition and travelled to China for a residency at the Beijing Central Conservatory. Julien has had the privilege to play with renowned chamber musicians, Axel Strauss, Elizabeth Dolan, Douglas McNabney, Movses Pogossian, Antonio Lysy, Guillaume Sutre, and Anssi Karttunen. Julien now studies with Steven Dann at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, with whom he will be playing as a fellow of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society in Washington DC in 2020.

Julien has much experience improvising, having performed improvised music on the viola, piano, and singing as well. Julien is well trained in classical as well as jazz improv and is also a songwriter and reputable session musician in the recording industry.
